Of Course, when you bought your infant’s car seat, you were thinking only of the safety of your baby, and not about fashion or style. And really nothing else matters except the safety of your baby. But now that you’re sure that your baby is as safe and snug as can be in the back seat of the car, maybe it’s time to think about infant car seat covers.
My favorite thing about infant car seat covers is that they can be washed (make sure when you select one you find a model that is machine washable and dryable. Most are, but a few are not so look out!). Of course you can wipe the car seat itself down with a damp sponge, but let’s be honest that never really works as well as we’d like, and there’ll always be something left behind. But with a seat cover, you just have to toss it into the washing machine and you’re good to go with a completely fresh car seat cover. Your baby will be comfortable and clean, and happier for it.
To make sure that you’re buying the infant car seat cover that’s easy to clean, I recommend a seat cover that is made from a synthetic material. Naturals like cotton are nice, but they take stains like a wick, and once they are in the stains are very, very, very difficult to remove. In contrast, a synthetic material will be much more resistant to staining. Spills tend to sit on top of the fabric rather than sinking in, and if they do happen to sink in, the dye in the drink just doesn’t take as well to the synthetic fibers (which are frequently sealed to reject additional dyes). In addition, synthetics are much more resilient, won’t bunch, crease, or sag like a natural fiber might, and they’ll last a whole lot longer. There are synthetic fabrics available that feel just as soft and cushy as a cotton fiber that you (much less your baby) will never know the difference.
When you install your infant car seat covers, be sure not to disturb the installation or placement of the car seat itself. It’s very important to keep everything in it’s place to provide the safest possible ride for your baby.
Choosing and installing infant car seat covers can be a little bit mystifying, but it can really be an ideal solution for on-the-go mommies and their babies. Thanks for reading my infant seat covers blog!
