There are a lot of compelling reasons why people buy infant car seat covers. While fashion, comfort, and style all play a part, I believe that the most prominent reason why people buy covers is to save money. Investing in a cover can breathe new life into an old seat, and can be a great way to save a few dollars in the long run. Many people, though, are thrown off by the initial cost of purchasing an infant car seat cover. But I would assert that the cost is worth it- let me tell you why.
Infant car seats are very, very expensive. Particularly if you buy a very good quality model (which I definitely suggest that you do), you will find yourself making a fairly major investment. It makes sense to protect this investment sensibly by purchasing a car seat cover. They can be easily laundered and replaced, and will significantly lengthen the lifespan of the seat.
Infant car seat covers are way less expensive than they used to be. Many of you who are not first-time parents will remember that up until a few years ago, they were sort of a specialty item. They were pretty hard to find, and even when they were available, they were marketed to a higher consumer bracket, and were priced as such. Over the past several years, though, the use of covers has become much more mainstream. Demand and supply are both much greater than they used to be, and prices have been forced down considerably.
While there are definitely models to fit every price range, I’ve seen models that are as cheap as twenty or thirty dollars, which when you consider what you’re getting, is really not a large investment. Of course, there are models that reach up into the hundreds of dollars, but after a point you reach a point of diminishing return for your money. Most infant seat covers that I’ve seen tend to hang from around fifty dollars to around eighty dollars.
I realize that for new parents, the investment may seem unnecessary. Particularly in these tight economic times, it is difficult to rationalize an “unnecessary” purchase. But it is important to realize that making a purchase like this helps to protect your long term investment, and there are lots of viable and pragmatic reasons why you should buy one. Thanks for reading my infant seat covers blog!
